What is Recurrent Pregnancy Loss?

Recurrent pregnancy loss is defined by some as the loss of three or more consecutive pregnancies. However some others define RPL as two or more clinical pregnancy losses, not necessarily consecutive. Clinical pregnancy loss is defined as a miscarriage documented by ultrasound or histopathology. We recommend diagnostic work up to all couples who have had 2 consecutive pregnancy losses. It affects approximately 1% to 2% of couples trying to conceive. The prevalence increases in advanced maternal age, family predisposition and infertility patients.

Services Offered at our  RPL Clinic

  • Comprehensive Evaluation:
Our RPL clinic has a proforma for detailed history taking which will help to formulate a diagnostic plan.  We thereafter conduct thorough investigations to identify potential causes of recurrent miscarriages. This may include:

    • Genetic Testing: Analyzing chromosomes of both partners to identify genetic abnormalities.

    • Hormonal Assessments: Evaluating hormone levels to identify the probable reason for RPL.

    • Uterine Abnormalities: Assessing the structure and function of the uterus by doing 3-D transvaginal ultrasonography.

    • Blood Clotting Disorders: Testing for conditions like Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) and thrombophilia profile that can increase the risk of miscarriage.

    • Tests to assess the quality of the eggs and sperms.

    • Immunological test

  • Personalized Treatment Plans:
Based on the evaluation, a tailored treatment plan is developed for every patient. These treatment options may  include:

    • Medications: Such as aspirin, blood thinners, vitamin supplements or hormone therapies.

    • Surgical Interventions: Addressing uterine abnormalities(mullerian anomalies) or other structural problems (polyp, adhesions, fibroids) using minimal invasive approach (hysteroscopic or combined hystero-laproscopic approach)

    • Assisted Reproductive Technologies: In some cases, assisted reproductive technologies like In vitro fertilisation may be recommended.

    • Life style modification
